Find a stream hostFinding a reliable and decent stream host can be challenging. A small server blip can result in listeners being kicked off and the majority of them will just find another stream to listen to. Here are a few good tips for finding a reliable stream host.
What you pay is what you get
Have a look at the deal and think to yourself, is this offer sustainable and realistic? Offering thousands of slots at a high bit rate for a few dollars isn't. Everyone likes a bargin so look out for money off offers such as one month free (or at least discounted), even try asking the company for a months discount. Be prepared to pay a little bit extra for higher quality bandwidth, better support and a more reliable service.
Look for reviews
A great way to find out what a company is like is to find reviews of them. You could try any major search engine but a better bet would be to enter their domain name in the search box at the side of this page. Assuming they're listed on here and have been rated you should find some helpful comments submitted by our members. You should also try the Talk Webcasting discussion forums or Broadcasting World forums, either look for past posts - or create a new thread to see if anyone's using them!
Check their Support
Even if you know what you're doing having fast and effective support is a virtue! You don't want to be waiting hours or even days when you've got an emergency problem just before you're about to go to air. Send off a few messages to the companies' support lines, be that their email, phone or so on. See how quickly they reply and find out what they know (if anything) - and not just on the sales side contact their technical support too. Come up with a few questions, maybe about their business and servers or any questions you'd like answering and compare what they all say and how quickly they say it to the the other companies you're looking at.
Try a demo
Many companies offer a streaming demo of some kind. At most you're probably going to get 24 hours. A regually updated list of demo streams is avalible here.
Webcast Compare!
Use Webcast Compare! Go through the websites listed and see if one catches your eye. Read the reviews and see what you think. Just make sure that when you've chosen a host and you've used them for a while - review them for other people's benefit!
